You Are Not Alone

Dear Friends,

In those times where it is hard to hear God's voice, we need to know that we are not alone.  Take time today to listen to the words of this song, "I Am Not Alone" by  Kari Jobe to remind you that God is with you - especially in the questioning and places of silence.

Trust that you are deeply loved,

Your Sacred Story

Dear Friends,

As you continue on in your journey, take the time you need to hear the still, small, voice of God.  Allow the silence and the blessing to nourish you and your story.  Trust that God is up to something beautiful in your life.  The story that you tell will help others breathe life into their journey.  Your story brings more of God's Love and Grace to everyone who hears it.  Thank you!

Trusting that God is up to something beautiful,
Kimberly

Maundy Thursday

Dear Friends,

I came across this beautiful poem by Joy Cowley in the Winter 2015 issue of Bella Grace.   The poem is a reminder of the brokenness of life and how it always offers new hope and growth.  I pray that the words reach you where you are and offer just the right bit of light for your journey.

Wishing you the light of God's Love,
Kimberly

If your life is BROKEN, do not
WRAP it up in bandages but let it lie wide open to the SUN and WIND and rain. Let FLOWERS drop their seeds in. Plant a TREE or two and ENCOURAGE the birds to SING in the branches, then invite your FRIENDS around to listen to the music. If you TRUST enough to do this, you will QUICKLY discover that life has a wonderful way of turning BROKEN lives
into GARDENS.

Your Presence Matters

Dear Friends,

Even though we live in a world that is connected constantly, we can sometimes feel invisible.  This can also be the case for our young people who may feel shut out or even bullied.  You may want to take a moment to hear the words of Hunter Hayes, who sings, "Invisible."  Today, remind someone close to you that their presence matters in your life.

Wishing you many blessings,
Kimberly

Nourish Your Beautiful Spirit and Story

Dear Friends,

Defining our story and telling it can sometimes be physically tiring.  It takes great courage to share your story about who you are and who you are becoming.  On your Lenten journey, take the time that you need to tell you story.  Trust that when you begin to share your story - it will arrive in the world at just the right time.  Below are a few words of encouragement and permission for you as you develop your story.

Wishing you rest,

Breathe and Believe

Dear Friends,

Every once in a while it is important to just take one deep breath.  When we stop and breathe we are brought to the present moment.  In that moment we can rest and affirm our presence in the world.  Breathing and being present help us to be available to God and Love too.  Grant yourself permission to take a deep breath today and be centered in the present moment.

Wishing you many beautiful breaths and belief in yourself!

5th Sunday in Lent

Dear Friends,

On the journey of Lent, there are moments where we are brought to tears, or crying out, or questioning.  Today I offer two prayers, the first, a Laguna Pueblo Prayer, and the second, a Hebrew Children's Prayer.  Trust that you are not alone on the journey, and that angels are by your side and that we are all in this together.

Wishing you countless blessings for healing and strength,
Kimberly

Laguna Pueblo Prayer

I add my breath to your breath
That our days may be long on the Earth,
That the days of our people may be long,
That we shall be as one person,
That we may finish our road together.

Taken from Life Prayers, Affirmations to Celebrate the Human journey. By Elizabeth Roberts and Elias Amidon

Hebrew Children’s Prayer

In the name of the Lord God of Israel,
May Michael, the protection of God,
Be at my right hand,
And Gabriel, the power of God, at my left,
Before me Uriel, the light of God,
Behind me Raphael, the healing of God,
And above my head Shekhinat El, the presence of God.

Play in Mediums

Dear Friends,

When we tell our story, we have to find the medium that works for us.  Sometimes we may want to use the medium of writing or drawing.  Perhaps baking, quilting, or making a beautiful dinner can help us to tell our story.  Find the medium of expression that allows you to tell your story in the most enjoyable way.  Below is some encouragement to help you explore different mediums and to help you tell your sacred story.

Wishing you creativity and freedom as your express your story,

The Gifts of Nature

Dear Friends,

May today offer you simple moments in nature that remind you of the many gifts of life.  Perhaps the wind will speak to you, or the rock formations, or even the gentle movement of the water.  Take time today to be in the natural world and allow God to speak to your tender heart.

Juggling

Dear Friends,

Every once in a while, our plate can feel very full.  Sometimes,  we may even be juggling a few plates at one time.  Know that as you are juggling, you are allowed to take a moment to rest.  In those moments remember who you are, trust that everything is in God's hands.  Take a moment to listen to the words of Laura Story's song, "I Can Just Be Me." She reminds us to relax into the presence of God and the person we are meant to be. She reminds us that we are not alone on the journey.

Wishing you many blessings,

4th Sunday in Lent

Dear Friends,

For today's reading, I offer The Prayer of Saint Francis.  This beautiful prayer helps us to see how our gifts can encourage those around us.  Today, allow your gifts to reveal themselves and trust that they offer a blessing to those around you.

Trusting that your gifts are arriving at just the right time,
Kimberly

The Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred…let me sow love.
Where there is injury…pardon.
Where there is discord…unity.
Where there is doubt…faith.
Where there is error…truth.
Where there is despair…hope.
Where there is sadness…joy.
Where there is darkness…light.

Oh Master, grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled…as to console.
To be understood…as to understand.
To be loved…as to love with all my heart.

For it is in giving that we receive.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned.
It is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

3rd Sunday in Lent

Dear Friends,

As we continue on our journey, take a moment to read the encouraging words of Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, S.J., who asks us to Trust in the Slow Work of God.  Notice what words speak to you today as you allow your gifts to unfold in just the right way.  Trust that God is up to something beautiful in your life!

Wishing you the perfect words for your journey,
Kimberly

Trust in the slow work of God…

Trust in the slow work of God.
We are, quite naturally,
Impatient in everything to reach the end,
Without delay.
We should like to skip
The intermediate stages.
We are impatient of being on the way
To something unknown,
Something new,
And yet it is the law of all progress
That it is made by passing through some stages of instability
And that it may take a very long time.

Your ideas mature gradually
Let them grow,
Let them shape themselves,
Without undue haste.
Don’t try to force them on, as though you could be today
What time (that is to say, grace and circumstances
Acting on your own good will)
Will make them tomorrow.

Only God could say what this new spirit
Gradually forming within you will be.
Give our Lord the benefit of believing
That God’s own hand is leading you,
and accept the anxiety
Of feeling yourself in suspense
and incomplete.

-Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, SJ

Psalm 23

Dear Friends,

These words from Psalm 23 remind us to rest and to take the time we need to renew our spirit.  Grant yourself permission to be still, to allow God to bring nourishment to your mind, body, and soul.

Wishing you the rest you need,
Kimberly

Psalm 23

O my Beloved, You are my shepherd,
I shall not want;
You bring me to green pastures
For rest
And lead me beside still waters
Renewing my spirit;
You restore my soul.
You lead me in the path of goodness
To follow Love’s way.

Even though I walk through the
Valley of the shadow and of death
I am not afraid;
For you are ever with me;
Your rod and your staff
They guide me,
They give me strength
And comfort.

You prepare a table before me
In the presence of all my fears;
You bless me with oil,
My cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy will follow me
All the days of my life;
And I shall dwell in the heart of the Beloved forever.
Amen.

2nd Sunday in Lent

Dear Friends,

For this Sunday in Lent, I would like to share a prayer offered by John O'Donohue in his book, To Bless the Space Between Us.  As we walk on the journey towards Easter morning, we are offered a new beginning.  Each step, each day, each sunrise, offers us a clean slate, a clean heart and a way to begin anew.  Allow the words of John O'Donohue to nourish you today.

Wishing you a beautiful new beginning,
Kimberly

For a New Beginning

In the out-of-the-way places of the heart,
Where your thoughts never think to wander,
This beginning has been quietly forming,
Waiting until you were ready to emerge.

For a long time it has watched your desire,
Feeling the emptiness growing inside you,
Noticing how you willed yourself on,
Still unable to leave what you had outgrown.

It watched you play with the seduction of safety
And the gray promises that sameness whispered,
Heard the waves of turmoil rise and relent,
Wondered would you always live like this.

Then the delight, when your courage kindled,
And out you stepped onto new ground,
Your eyes young again with energy and dream,
A path of plentitude opening before you.

Though your destination is not yet clear
You can trust the promise of this opening;
Unfurl yourself into the grace of beginning
This is at one with your life's desire.

Awaken your spirit to adventure;
Hold nothing back, learn to find ease in risk;
Soon you will be home in a new rhythm,
For your soul senses the world that awaits you.

Nature's Gift of Hope

Dear Friends,

This season is one of hope, continual unfolding, and a belief in the gift of New Life.  Today, notice how nature reminds you of God's hope for you and your life.  Take a moment today to be in nature and ask God to show you a sign of hope, one that you can capture in your mind's eye, to carry with you through Lent and beyond.

Wishing you moments of beauty and hope in the natural world,

"Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.  There is symbolic as well as actual beauty in the migration of the birds, the ebb and flow of the tides, the folded bud ready for spring.  There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature - the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after the winter."  -Rachel Carson, The Sense of Wonder

1st Sunday in Lent

Dear Friends,

Each Sunday I will post a link for the New Testament reading and the Psalm for that day.  I have also included one small part of Psalm 32 written by Nan C. Merrill in her book, Psalms for Praying, An Invitation to Wholeness.   Allow the words that call to you enlighten your journey and your calling too.

Wishing you many blessings for your Lenten journey,
Kimberly

P.S. Happy Valentine's Day! :)

Therefore, let everyone who is sincere
give thanks to the Beloved;
For whenever we feel paralyzed by fear,
we shall be embraced by Love.
Dwelling in the Heart of the Beloved,
we are free from distress,
free to live more creatively.

O my Beloved, You are my guide,
You teach me to walk in the Light.
Be watchful of me, counsel me as
I listen to You in the Silence.
I pray for the gifts of inner peace and wisdom,
For the grace to reverence all of Creation.

A Blessing of Angels
By John O’Donohue

May the Angels in their beauty bless you.
May they turn toward you streams of blessing.

May the Angel of Awakening stir your heart
To come alive to the eternal within you,
To all the invitations that quietly surround you.

May the Angel of Healing turn your wounds
into sources of refreshment.

May the Angel of the Imagination enable you to
Stand on the true thresholds,
At ease with your ambivalence
And drawn in new directions
Through the glow of your contradictions.

May the Angel of Compassion open your eyes
To the unseen suffering around you.

May the Angel of Wildness disturb the places
Where your life is domesticated and safe,
Take you to the territories of true otherness

Where all that is awkward in you
Can fall into its own rhythm.

May the Angel of Eros introduce you
To the beauty of your senses

To celebrate your inheritance
As a temple of the holy spirit.

May the Angel of Justice disturb you
To take the side of the poor and the wronged.

May the Angel of Encouragement confirm you
In worth and self-respect,
That you may live with the dignity
That presides in your soul.

May the Angel of Death arrive only
When your life is complete
And you have brought every given gift
To the threshold where its infinity can shine.

May all of the Angels be your sheltering
And joyful guardians.

Storytelling

Dear Friends,

We know that there are many benefits to telling our story.  Stories enhance our lives and our children’s lives for a variety of reasons.  Stories help us to define our experiences and our journey.  Stories remind us to be compassionate with ourselves and with our community.  In addition, stories allow all of us to continually create and express ourselves and in the end, we offer hope to those around us.
Stories are a valuable tool for teaching, learning, and healing. Throughout our lives, we need to tell and retell our stories to remember who we are and who we are becoming. We cannot live without this empowering form of expression that validates our journey and our life.
This Lenten season, take time to write, tell, bake, sew, or shout your story.  Trust that your story brings hope to everyone who hears it.  In the next few weeks, I will offer simple ways to help you tell your story.  Below is one simple way to begin.

Looking forward to hearing your story!
Kimberly

Healing in Nature

Dear Friends,

As we move into the Lenten season, it is good to rest.  Take time today to be in the natural world to see how God speaks to you.  Perhaps you will hear the wind through the trees, or see the sun on the water, or perhaps a Cardinal will arrive close by.  Allow your spirit to be nourished by the natural world and allow God to reach you in these places of quiet.  Below is a beautiful poem by Wendell Berry speaking of the nourishment offered by the natural world.

Wishing you many blessings and gifts of nourishment,
Kimberly
"When despair for the world grows in me and I wake in the night at the least sound, in fear of what my life and my children's lives may be, I go and lie down where the wood drake rests in the beauty of the water, and the great heron feeds.  I come into the peace of the wild things who do not tax their lives with forethought of grief.  I come into the presence of still water, and I feel above me the day - blind stars waiting for their light.  For a time I rest in the grace of the world, and am free."

Ash Wednesday

Dear Friends,

To begin our Lenten journey, I offer a beautiful prayer called, The Echo of Ashes by Joyce Rupp from her book, Out of the Ordinary.  Her words remind us of the walk in the desert of Lent, the walk with deeper prayer, and listening for God.  May we be blessed with wisdom and the compassion of our Lord as we walk together towards Easter.  Trust that your journey will allow your story to unfold beautifully.  Trust that your story matters in the lives of others.

Wishing you many blessings of light and love,
Kimberly

The Echo of Ashes

"Remember you are dust and to dust you shall return."

the large brown bowl
rests on a purple cloth
its roundness holding ashes freshly burned
black and ready for wearing.

blackened thumbs
press the ancient sign
upon waiting foreheads.

I hear the message repeated
until it haunts and hunts me down:
remember, remember, remember
you are dust, dust, only dust
someday only dust will remain.

the echo of the Lent-stained ashes
speaks the truth of my humanity;
the humbleness of my beginning,
the simplicity of my departure.

A few wise words
echoing through Ash Wednesday
urge me to deeper things:
renewed dedication,
constant compassion,
and mindful awareness.

I leave marveling
at how simple and sublime
is this envelope of the soul,
which one day returns
to dust, dust, only dust.
